“Buttered Toads”, originally uploaded by Sir Nadroj.

Here is Jordan Schwarz’s latest creation. A yellow frog?! Got to get me one of those. Here’s what Jordan had to say about this MOC:

I fell in love with the little yellow froggy from the new Harry Potter game Hogwarts and thought I’d build something featuring it. And light yellow is by far my favorite LEGO color, so I made this. Meet Buttered Toads. I don’t know who, what or why Buttered is, but here he is. Yup.

Yellow LEGO Frog

Need I say more? Okay, maybe a little, for those of you who don’t quite recognize the ramifications of this. Well, for one, the LEGO Frog is already my absolutely favorite piece. They usually come in green, and sometimes in Dark-Bluish Grey or even Trans-Green. But this new yellow frog was just released in the new LEGO Harry Potter Board Game.

Helmet

Due to the Frog’s small size, it’s relatively easy to find helmets he’ll fit in for mechs. Frog mechs are not completely uncommon, though not exactly a “mainstream subtheme” … yet.

Fingers

Jordan’s done some pretty cool stuff here to give the idea of the long “fingers” a frog would have (though admittedly the webbing is a little hard to accomplish in LEGO brick) — and also making them functionable and having “opposable thumbs.” Gorillas will be jealous.
(Notice that the thumb is actually a minifig hand.)

Joints

Looks like Jordan is combining some clip tiles with some hoze nozzles. He’s also got some nicely placed yellow droid torsos on the legs.

The doors are well done with the recessed 2×2 spinner plate bottom (which, incidentally, seems to get used more decoratively these days. Was it all due to the official Taj Mahal set? Or had AFOLs been doing this sort of thing sooner?)

While you don’t see an entire castle here, what you do see is very believable. And the photo came out great!

What SlyOwl does in an afternoon puts the rest of us to shame. First of all, the organic spread of the green to set the scene area and then the path to the old mill — very subtle stuff, but takes some thinking to get it right as you build. The mix of grey and the grill bricks on the mill give a good sense of the age to the building — not to mention the one door that has broken off its hinge.

The scene on the mill wheel evokes Pirates of the Caribbean 2; is that Captain Jack running away? Makes me wonder if SlyOwl is intentionally setting this as an homage to the apparent Easter Bunny announcement of a Pirates of the Caribbean line from the LEGO/Disney ongoing licensing agreement.

There are so many other juicy details here, too, like the gravestones, the effective use of foliage, etc.

evildead1980 has concocted a brilliant little island scene with all kinds of gorgeous building goodies going on.

I enjoyed his technique for the sandy beach — very organic and realistic.

And here he’s got an awesome use for a little farm animal (below). Note also how effectively he was able to get the bananas together. We typically see bananas in a “bunch” — usually 5 or 6 together, though this is a pretty good rendition of a banana “fist” — bananas actually grow together like this, pointed up.

And here a little tropical hot-tub complete with water supplied out the mouth of an ancient sculpture of a skull. Loved the use of the curved blue bricks here to depict the water pouring out. Notice also the use of brown minifig-heads as coconuts. There is also a brilliant mix of multiple types of vegetation to make a very coherent, believable island scene.
